• Nothing by mouth for 6 to 8 hours prior to the examination.  Eating or drinking may cause the gallbladder to contract and become difficult to see.  Eating or drinking may cause bowel gas that interferes with the exam.

• Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
• If diabetic do not take insulin or oral diabetic medicines.
• Take am meds with sip of water except blood thinners and diabetic medicines. Contact us prior to the day of the exam if you are currently taking Coumadin for further instructions.
• Metformin* products should be held for 48 hours post contrast & then resumed by referring physician once serum BUN & creatinine have been reviewed.
• Please notify us prior to the day of your exam if you have a history of contrast allergy or reaction.
• You will need someone to drive you home after the procedure.

*Metformin products: Glucophage, Glucovance, Avandamet, or Metaglip

• No special preparation is required prior to arrival at the department. However, it may be good to have no food or liquids for a couple hours prior to the procedure.
• Please notify us prior to the day of the exam if you have drug allergies and if you take blood thinners such as Coumadin or Plavix.

• Eat a low residue diet 2 days before the exam.
• Have only clear liquids the day prior to the exam.
• Complete a full bowel preparation the day prior to the examination (usually Go-Lytely, Nu- Lytely, or Half-Lytely plus 4 Bisacodyl tablets).
• Drink a bottle of Tagitol with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Drink 60ml Gastroview at bed time.
• Take am meds with sip of water. Have nothing else by mouth until after the exam.
